I then went on to watch a short fashion talk from the man himself JP Hevey and it was actually really useful. I am by no means a fashion guru and don't touch upon fashion much here on KatieLewLa, however I do love to shop and keep up with the latest trends (providing they tickle my fancy). All of the items included in the discussion were from Matalan and Next and I have to say that Matalan came up trumps for me. I especially loved the Victoria fashion section. This was filled with pretty victorian style long sleeved shirts with frills and ruffles, so pretty for underneath a cute pinafore or teamed with a skirt and tights. It was inspiring to see so many patterns and textures teamed together to create layers and different dynamics to an outfit, I will certainly be experimenting with this. JP definitely knew his stuff and he was so friendly, approachable and happy to chat about what might work for you.

Now here was my favourite part of the day. Getting my makeup done by the wonderful Stacey Lincoln. Stacey asked if I would be her model for the Beauty chat and she took my natural makeup look from daytime to nighttime with a couple of nifty tricks. When she showed me the colours that she was going to use for my ombre lip look I was pretty damn terrified, as I'm not very daring with my choice in lip shades. The first shade was Mac Rebel and the second (unfortunately I can't remember the name) was a dark purple that almost looked black. She began by applying the Mac Rebel all over my lips without lip liner. She then went in with the second shade. Stacey applied this to the inner corners and also in the middle to create a fuller looking lip. the texture that she managed to achieve was insanely good and is something that I've never attempted to do myself. Afterwards she applied a lip liner and cleaned up round my lips with a small foundation brush and some concealer to finish them off and really make them pop. She smudged some kohl eyeliner underneath my bottom lashes to frame my eye and give them more of a smokey look - appropriate for evenings - and then added some highlighter to my cheekbones and cupids bow to define my face. Stacey only changed three things with my makeup but it was so cleverly done and my look went from very subtle and natural to a bold and vampy evening look. I surprisingly loved it and will definitely be purchasing some darker lip colours for autumn/winter.

As if I hadn't been pampered enough already, I then hopped aboard the Street Style Bus to receive some mini treatments. The lovely Christina Kossa gave me a nice relaxing mini hand massage which left my hands and nails prepped and moisturised to go on for a mini manicure. I was lucky enough to have my nails done by perfectionist Gina, who took her time to make sure my nails were looking fabulous. She used all OPI products which obviously made me very happy and the colour I chose was beautiful. The shade was OPI - Ink (which can be found here on amazon) and I will almost certainly be purchasing it. The photo below doesn't do it justice because the lighting on the street style bus wasn't fantastic but the colour was a dark purple with a really fine purple and blue shimmer (think galaxy nails), love love love.

Overall the day was so laid back, everyone I met was super friendly and couldn't do enough to make me feel beautiful inside and out. Any anxieties I had about what was expected of me as a blogger disappeared the moment that I met Ishta and the rest of the team - I almost wished I could jump on board the funky street style bus and travel with them to their next destination as there is so much to learn from this lovely bunch of professionals.

I went on home to enjoy a feast of Wilma's Cupcakes with my friend who came along to the event with me for support and pampering. Boy were they tasty. Of all the flavours, I think my favourite had to be Nutella. My love affair with Nutella is not one to be meddled with, although the strawberry bon bon and candy floss cupcakes were also very sweet and delicious. The cupcake coma I was in afterwards was delightfully fulfilling haha!

I am seriously rocking the simple nails recently. I don't know if it's because I got out of the habit of painting them, so I'm now slowly introducing it again and choosing simple designs. Or maybe they just look amazing and that's why I'm going for them. What do you think?

These nails take no time at all. Perfect for if you don't have much time to dedicate to your nails but still want them to look fashionable and eye-catching. The colour I've used for these is Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in the shade 503 Lychee. It's a lovely nude beige and as with all Barry M polishes it applies so easily with no bubbles leaving a smooth high shine finish just as it promises.

I created the simple spots using...... wait for it..... a sharpie! Yes, a sharpie! (Buy Sharpies Here) Amazing right? Sharpies are so easy to use on nails because you can have so much more control over the pen than you often do with regular nail art pens. The trick here is to make sure your base polish is completely dry before using the sharpie to make sure you don't cause dents or smudges. After you've applied the sharpie, give it sufficient time to try so that it doesn't smudge when you apply a top coat. If you are short on time then you can apply top coat immediately after but apply it in a dabbing motion so as not to smudge the spots. Be careful when applying the top coat. Take your time in manoeuvring around the sharpie design so as not to smudge.

I know you haven't seen one of these posts for a while but I am so pleased that you can now. I go through phases of nibbling my nails, I have done since school. Usually when I'm bored or stressed. Keeping up to date with painting them keeps me from being tempted and so I managed to grow them to a good enough length to do exactly that. I'd love to say it was will power and determination, but my other half going ballistic with me every time he caught me nibbling played a rather large part.

Anyway, since I haven't painted them for a while, I didn't fancy anything too complicated and I've seen simple nails such as these all over Pinterest recently. The lighting really doesn't do the blue colour justice, it has a subtle shimmer to it which catches the light wonderfully. Unfortunately I have no specific colour name for you, as the product was a 17 polish from a set that I received a while back and none of them were name specific.

The tape is just a standard nail striping tape from eBay, similar to These at just 99p they are an absolute bargain, and I do like me some bargains. However, I do have trouble keeping the tape on after a couple of days, if anyone has any tips on preventing the edges from curling up I'd be very grateful. Washing my hair is a nightmare, my nails go in looking beautifully painted to perfection and come out looking like a 10 day old bodge job! Help! 

Staying power aside, I do like these simple nails. They're super quick to do but are still eye catching and easy to do for a night out or hot date!

Hello there lovelies,

French manicures have been taking my fancy a bit this week, however I didn't want to stick to a plain and simple french. Delving around in my nail drawers I fished out my nail fimo canes (bought from ebay) that I haven't used for aaaaaages, thought they might make a cute addition to a regular french. Then I got carried away adding pearls and glitter. I set out unsure what I was going to do with my nails but on this occasion it seems improvisation turned out well for me.

Here's a little step by step of how I created these nails :)

-Firstly I added O.P.I Nail Envy base coat which is my go to base coat

- I then added two coats of natural nail colour which was one out of a ted baker set I received as a gift last christmas

-Next I painted on the white tips using a Sally Hansen french tips polish

- I then sliced some fimo canes as thin as I could manage so that they weren't too bulky, and applied these to my thumb and ring finger using a clear nail polish

- Then I decided to add some pearls to the mix, just dotting a few around the area of the fimo using the pointy end of a wooden orange stick

- Finally I added some silver glitter of the tips of my nails that didn't have any nail art on to jazz them up a little.

And voila, seal everything with a top coat once it's all dried and you're done. I'm not too confident these nails will last a week like they usually do due to all the nobbly bobbly bits but I think they look really pretty and I might experiment with french tips more often.
